From footballer to watchmaker

Stephan Lichtsteiner learns from Maurice de Mauriac

When Stephan Lichtsteiner started his football career at FC Adligenswil in 1991 at the age of seven, he had to start small, like every football-loving boy. He got to know the smell of freshly mown football pitches up close, enjoy the smell of dressing rooms, the sound of a header, and the great feeling when goals are scored and fans sing victory chants. The journey was worth it. He became a professional footballer and played for the best clubs in Europe, including Grasshoppers, Lazio Rome, Juventus Turin, FC Arsenal, and, of course, was Swiss National captain. Today, he knows what it needs to achieve and master perfection.

In 2020, Stephan retired from football and allowed himself time to reorient himself. Then it happened. He met the Watchbros, Massimo and Leonard Dreifuss, and fell in love with the idea of devoting himself more intensively to the watch industry. Together they came up with the idea of following the successful path of their first career once again. To start small in the watch industry with Maurice de Mauriac. The possible outcome is well known.

Stephan will accompany the Watchbros for six months and get to know the creation of a mechanical chronograph, his favorite watch, the L3 sees red, from scratch. Stephan loves this watch for its history and the values Maurice de Mauriac stands for because it is the baton that Daniel Dreifuss passed on to his sons. Of course, it bears the number 26, his number from his football days. Yesterday he received his “jersey”, a shirt with the Maurice de Mauriac logo and his new Title “intern”! This is the ticket to the watchmaking field.

At the side of the Watchbros and the founder of Maurice de Mauriac, Daniel Dreifuss, Stephan will get to know the brand even better, accompany the production of all the components of his favorite watch, visit the suppliers, assemble an L3 himself – and experience the development of the new L2 model at first hand. If anyone should discover our legendary Landy anywhere in Zurich or Switzerland, Stephan Lichtsteiner could be at the wheel.

Anyone who knows the Dreifuss family, their attention to detail, and their passion, knows that Stephan will soon also know every scent and sound of the watch industry. So it could be the start of another professional career. This time in the watch industry.

If he becomes a watch professional, we will all be witnesses. That’s why we’ll be following his “career” with us on camera every now and then. With the hashtag #StephanAndMaurice, we will post his story with Maurice de Mauriac in several episodes here, on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn films and photos.
